“Under the Income Tax Act,1961 registration for a Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN) are essential for individuals and entities who are liable to pay taxes in India.
1.Permanent Account Number (PAN): PAN is a unique 10-character alphanumeric identification number assigned to individuals and entities for tax purposes. It is mandatory for filing income tax returns, opening a bank account, conducting financial transactions, and more. To apply for a PAN card, individuals need to fill out Form 49A (for Indian citizens) or Form 49AA (for foreign citizens) online or offline through authorized agencies. The form must be submitted along with proof of identity, address, and other supporting documents
2.Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN): TAN is a 10-digit alphanumeric number required for deducting or collecting tax at the source. It is mandatory for entities that are liable to deduct TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) or collect TCS (Tax Collected at Source) from payments made to vendors, employees, etc. To apply for a TAN, entities need to fill out Form 49B online or offline through authorized agencies. The form must be submitted along with supporting documents such as PAN card, address proof, and more.”
